The King Mackerel
The King Mackerel belongs to the Scombridae family. The king mackerel is a medium-sized fish, generally weighing between 5 and 14 kg, but weighing more than 40 kg. Females can live up to 14 years, and males up to 11 years. It spawns from May to September. It can be fished from April to December. Unlike other members of Scombridae, mackerel do not have a black area on the front of the first dorsal fin. The mackerel king has 12 to 18 spines in his first dorsal fin; 15-18 rays in the second dorsal fin, followed by 7-10 pinnacles; and 21-23 rays in the pectoral fin. Its body is about five times larger than its head and about six times longer than its depth. The whole body is covered with rudimentary scales, except for its pectoral fin. The lateral line drops abruptly after the second dorsal fin, then continues to the tail, distinguishing it from red mackerel (Scomberomorus regalis). The king mackerel also lacks scales on the pectoral fins, as does the Spanish mackerel (Scomberomorus maculatus), unlike the red mackerel which has scales extending over the pectoral fin. The king mackerel is a silver fish with indistinct bars or spots on the side. The dorsal surface is black with iridescent tones of blue and green. Young fish have small bronze spots on 5 or 6 irregular rows.

The Weakfish belongs to the Scianidae family. The weight reaches 1 m long and 9 kg of weight. It has an average life span of 12 years. It spawns from April to August. It can be fished from mid-April to the end of May, then again in August and September. Weakfish differs from other species in its genus by several meritorious characteristics: the anal fin on Weakfish has 11 or 12 soft rays, 11 to 13 gills, and the lateral line scales are between 76 and 86. In adults, the coloration of the dorsal scales is dark green and blends into the silvery underside. The coloring of the sides can range from purple, green, blue and gold spots that are usually found on the upper half of the fish. The fins are yellowish in color. The basic shape of the child's head is elongated and ends at a sharp point. The mouth is wide and oblique, with the lower jaw projecting beyond the upper jaw. The dorsal fin of fish is thorny, but the spines are flexible and usually the third or fourth spine is the longest. The anal fin is comparatively smaller than other fish in the same family as the white fish; its base ends slightly before the dorsal fin.

The Almaco Jack belongs to the Carangidae family. Its adult size varies from 80 cm to 120 cm. They reproduce in spring. It can be fished all year round. It has two dorsal fins, the longer of the two is about twice as long as the longer of the dorsal spines. It has a pale blue-green color, with a lavender glow. The Almaco Jack has a short upper jaw, with a yellowish streak from the jaw to the first dorsal fin, but its color becomes less recognizable as the fish ages. Younger almaco jacks usually have six black bars on the sides. The mouth is protractile and allows it to swallow its entire prey.

The Gulf Kingfish belongs to the Scianidae family. The adult size can reach 60 cm for 1,36 kg. It has a lifespan of 6 years. It breeds from September to March. It can be fished all year. Also known as a kingcroaker, the Gulf Kingfish is the biggest of the three whiting. The body is silvery in color and does not contain vertical spots or stripes like the other two species. However, it has a very visible black spot on the top of the tail.

The scamp fish belongs to the Serranidae family. Its maximum size is 7.8 kg for more than 100 cm. It has a lifespan of about 48 years. It spawns from April to May. It can be fished all year round. It has a light grey or brown color, large adults have elongated caudal rays and reddish brown spots on the sides that tend to be grouped in lines. It also has yellow spots around the corners of the mouth. It is linked to the gag and other slender groupers. Naughty animals are identified by their pronounced and pronounced dorsal and anal ray extensions, a more concave head profile and by their color. Scamps have a light brown to greyish brown body covered with well defined and separated black spots, which measure about 0.31 cm.
