The Silk Snapper belongs to the Lutjanidae family. It can reach a maximum of 83 cm in length and 8.3 kg in weight. They can live up to 30 years. The spawning season can last all year round. The first dorsal fin is composed of short, robust spiny rays, the second dorsal fin and the anal fin are approximately symmetrical. The body and the caps are covered with small cycloid scales. The body is blue grey to dark green grey on the back, the sides and belly are silvery. A dark mark at the birth of the pectoral muscles is characteristic.
