The Dolphinfish belongs to the Coryphaenidae family. Its length can reach a maximum of 2 m, but the average length reaches 1 m. Its average weight is 14 kg but it can reach more than 30 kg. The body is covered with overlapping dermal denticles that have five to seven longitudinal veins (three in very young individuals) ending in three to five teeth. The coloring is a yellowish grey to greenish on the top and white to yellow below. A characteristic dark spot at the tip of the snout is more or less visible, especially in young sharks.
