The Bluegill
The Bluegill belongs to the Centrarchidae family. Adults are between 10 and 15 cm long but can reach 41 cm. Bluegill usually lives 4 to 6 years. Spawning season for bluegill begins in late May and continues until August. They can be caught from spring to summer. Like other cramps, bluegill have a very deep and flattened body. In other words, they are "large" and "flat". They have a small mouth on a small head. The dorsal fin is continuous, with the thorny anterior part and the soft, round posterior part with a dark touch at the base. The caudal fin is slightly forked but rounded. The body is mainly olive green with a yellowish underside. Their name "bluegill" comes from the shimmering blue and purple region on the cover of the cheeks and gills (operculum). A careful examination reveals six to eight vertical olive bars on the sides.

The chum salmon has a silvery blue-green coloring with some indistinct spots in a darker shade and a rather paler belly. When adults are about to spawn, they have purple streaks near the caudal peduncle, darker towards the tail. They have eight sensory barbells, or "whiskers", around their mouths. Four whiskers are on the chin, two on the muzzle and one at both corners of the mouth. The tail is deeply forked with the edge of the rounded anal fin. The adult color is pale grey to olive on the back and white to yellowish on the belly. The young are generally light grey at the back and silvery on the sides. The sides have scattered dark spots.

The Devils Hole Pupfish belongs to the Cyprinodontidae family. It is the smallest Cyprinodontidae species in the desert, measuring an average of 19 mm. It lives from 6 to 12 years old. Males and females of the Devils hole pupfish have a rounded caudal fin and do not have a pelvic fin. The short, rectangular caudal peduncle is at the same level as the wide mouth. The jaw contains a series of teeth, with 16 teeth on the upper jaw and 16 on the lower jaw. Its scales are ctenoid and there are no pre-orbital scales. Other distinguishing features include a large head and eyes and an elongated anal fin. The Devils hole pupfish has 17 pectoral rays, 12 dorsal rays and 28 caudal rays. The male is taller than the female, is iridescent blue and has vertical bars on its tail. The female is smaller and thinner than the male, yellow-brown in color, has a light spot on the dorsal fin and no bars on the tail.
