The Schoolmaster fish
The Schoolmaster fish belongs to the Lutjanidae fish. They reach a maximum of 61 cm long and 3.6 kg in weight, but are normally in the 30 cm to 35 cm range. It has a lifespan of 19 years. Its spawning and fishing season depends on the location. Schoolmaster have a robust, slightly compressed body, moderately deep, with a pointed head. The greatest depth is more than a third of its standard length. The head is broad, as long as the depth of the body; the profile is straight from the muzzle to the nape of the neck, then regularly arched to the tail. The color is olive grey to brownish on the back and upper sides, with a yellow to reddish tinge around the head. The King Mackerel belongs to the Scombridae family. The king mackerel is a medium-sized fish, generally weighing between 5 and 14 kg, but weighing more than 40 kg. Females can live up to 14 years, and males up to 11 years. It spawns from May to September. It can be fished from April to December. Unlike other members of Scombridae, mackerel do not have a black area on the front of the first dorsal fin. The mackerel king has 12 to 18 spines in his first dorsal fin; 15-18 rays in the second dorsal fin, followed by 7-10 pinnacles; and 21-23 rays in the pectoral fin. Its body is about five times larger than its head and about six times longer than its depth. The whole body is covered with rudimentary scales, except for its pectoral fin. The body is elongated and torpedo-shaped with a long flattened head. The eyes are small and the snout is wide. The lower jaw protrudes beyond the upper jaw. The skin is smooth with very small integrated scales. Easily distinguished by the first dorsal fin, composed of 7 to 9 strong and isolated spines, not connected by a membrane. The second dorsal fin is long with the front part elevated. The caudal fin is rounded to truncated in young fish and lunar in adults, with the upper lobe extending below the lower lobe. The origin of the anal fin is below the second dorsal vertex and the pectoral fin is pointed. Cobia doesn’t have an air bladder. The body is dark brown to silvery, paler on the sides and greyish white to silvery underneath, with two narrow dark bands extending from the snout to the base of the caudal fin. These dark bands are bordered at the top and bottom by lighter bands. Young cobia has dark side bands, which tend to become obscured in adult fish. Most fins are dark brown, with grey markings on the anal and pelvic fins.

The White Grunt belongs to the Haemulidae family. It generally reach a length of 45 cm and a weight of 2.5 kg, the white grunt is a small fish. The maximum declared length is 46.0 cm and the weight is 4.38 kg. The maximum lifespan for white grunt is thought to be between 9 and 12 years old. Spawning takes place during most of the year. It can be fished all year round. The body is moderately elongated, with a high and compressed back. The head is long with a pointed snout. The dorsal and anal fins of the white grunt are completely covered with scales. The caudal fin is forked and the pectoral fin long and sickle-shaped. The scales above the side line are larger than those below the side line. The white grunt is silvery-white to creamy, the head is bronze to yellow dorsally while the ventral surface of the head and belly is white. There is a series of dark blue stripes on the head, bordered with yellow-brown and rising into the body. The margin of each scale is bronze and the back edge is often grey. The rows of ladders above the side line are larger than those below the side line. The spiny dorsal fin is chalky to yellowish-white, the soft dorsal fin, the soft anal fin and the caudal fin are brownish grey. Pelvic fins are chalky, while pectoral fins range from light yellow to chalky. A black spot is located on the precapping and the inside of the mouth is red. The colour of this fish is variable, the fish appearing in a shade corresponding to the immediate environment.

It is not hard to catch and offer a little resistance. The Black bream has a high body and relatively compressed laterally, with symmetrically curved dorsal and ventral fins. The mouth is of moderate size compared to the body and has six incisors in the front of the lower and upper jaws. The body is covered with large scales that can be cycloid or slightly ctenoid. The head is essentially flake-free, except for the lids. A flake sheath covers the soft ray bases of the dorsal, anal and caudal fins. The Black Bream is silvery, from golden brown or bronze to grey-green on the back as well as on the sides with sometimes greenish reflections, depending on its habitat. The belly is white. The fins are all dark, with black borders. The caudal fin is often dark olive-brown.
